"Ahab, You're a Fool"
Messages
Bishop Renato
Some people go down in history for the good they have done - while others
make a name for themselves by performing extraordinary acts of evil. King Ahab
was one of the latter. He managed to do more evil than any other king before him
had ever done. Under Ahab, the religion of Israel reached its lowest point,
practicing official, state-sponsored Baal worship. He ordered the killing of all God's
prophets, married a priestess of Baal, Jezebel, and let her virtually rule the people
of Israel through him.
Ahab's actions provoked God to anger.
Let me get you to think about God's anger for a moment. What is anger, first of all? Anger is a strong feeling of displeasure and extreme annoyance caused by some experience. Other words for it are wrath, indignation, fury and rage. It's the opposite of patience, tolerance, long-suffering and mercy.
God feels anger because His nature is pure, right and holy - so when He sees injustice and wickedness prevail, especially among His people, His heart burns in anger. King David said that God is "a God who expresses his wrath every day" (Ps 7:11).
When Job complained to God about his suffering, look at God's advice to him:
"Unleash the fury of your wrath..." (Job 40:11)
In other words, God is a God who feels anger every day - but in order to express His anger He needs to find someone who feels the same way as He. Without finding a heart that feels what He feels, God's anger cannot be unleashed upon the evil to consume it.
Elijah, the prophet of fire, felt in his heart the same anger God felt as he looked at the situation of Israel. He could not see himself hiding in the same cave where another hundred prophets of God were, full of fear, just eating bread and drinking water (see 1 Ki 18:13). Elijah's indignation made him unleash the fury of his anger and go pick a fight with Ahab:
"Now Elijah...said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word." (1 Ki 17:1)
My question to you is, do you feel in your heart the same anger God feels when He sees your suffering? Do you feel what God feels? Are you infuriated by your problems, or are you just learning "to live with them"?
You have to change your thoughts first in order to change your life. You need to acquire the thoughts of God, to feel the feelings of God. You must have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16). When you do, then you too will start picking fights... and victories.
Unleash your anger and go pick a fight today.
